Text Box: September 2010

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.                                                                                                                                                                              1 John 1:7  NIV

Text Box: seen is temporary, but what cannot is eternal…for we walk by faith not by sight,” was used in an attempt to answer the question. In other words, the conviction of faith is the ability to see beyond our circumstances to the spiritual realities that lie behind them. For example, if we are weak, the strength of God lies behind our weakness. If we are foolish, the wisdom of God lies behind our foolishness. If we weep and are grieved, the blessing of God’s joy lies behind our demise. If we are sinful and lost, the forgiving, saving power of God’s grace lies behind our state. When we faithfully go beyond our circumstances to all the “unseen things” of God, exactly what we need is always there! Don’t bog down with only what you see with your eye or feel with your heart, but go beyond to the watchful eye and heart of God.

As we come to the end of another Text Box: At the outset, let me say thanks to all of you who have responded so graciously to our August “Catch-up” emphasis. We are not totally “caught up,” but are “better off” because of your extra show of love in your giving.

And, I must use space to say thanks to Ronnie, the choir, the instrumentalists, and all the gifted singers that have blessed our hearts in song the last three Sunday nights. It was indeed “a joyful noise unto the Lord”…..GOOD noise, of course.

In my devotional source for today, the question arose concerning faith that is “the conviction of things not seen.” In other words, how can we have a conviction in things that are beyond our senses, beyond our perception of understanding? A reference to Paul’s words in 2 Cor. 4:18, 5:7, “What can be Text Box: “church year,” may we indeed approach the next with “conviction of things not seen,” and work and rest there.
